Home to a large immigrant population, Chicago first arrived on the beer scene in 1855 with the Chicago Lager Riot.  More than 200 men including 4 ministers were arrested due to liquor law violations targeting immigrant populations. Once tensions settled, many of the new laws written as on outcome of the Lager Riot changed the face of modern liquor legislation and are still on the books in Chicago and Illinois today.
