A Very Green St. Patrick's Day: 6 Ways to Celebrate in Chicago

One of Chicago's most beloved traditions returns again this year! St. Patrick's Day in Chicago is unlike any other celebrated. Unique to the city, the Chicago River is dyed a vibrant green, taverns burst at the seams, and the Windy City air fills with sounds of bagpipes and high spirits.

Beginning early in the morning on Saturday, March 12, the local plumbers union will work their magic and dye the Chicago River green with environmentally friendly dye. The dye typically lasts 24-48 hours, so don't miss the opportunity to snap a picture before the dye wears off!

At 12:00 p.m. make your way over to the St. Patrick's Day parade route along Balbo Drive and Monroe Street, as lively floats make their way through the sea of high spirits.

Whether this is your first time experiencing the celebration or you are returning for another year, (lucky for you) we have rounded up 6 ways to celebrate all the green festivities this year!
