Herrera’s collections and accolades include Half of the World in Light: New and Selected Poems, 187 Reasons Mexicanos Can’t Cross The Border: Undocuments 1971–2007, a PEN/Beyond Margins Award, and a National Book Critics Circle Award.

His books of prose for children include Jabberwalking, SkateFate, and Calling the Doves, winner of an Ezra Jack Keats Award.
