Planet Chicago

Six prestigious dance companies will partake in free Pier-wide performances, including a festive audience-participation procession along the South Dock and in Polk Bros Park.

Back by popular demand, Navy Pier’s 2nd Annual Planet Chicago program is set to showcase half a dozen of Chicago’s finest dance companies in a series of Pier-wide performances on Friday evening, August 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The free event is inspired by the legacy of the popular Chicago Dancing Festival, which included the Pier last year as a new location in its 10th and final installment. Navy Pier now continues the tradition in the form of a full two-hour program that includes a festive and interactive dance procession along the lakefront.

Participating dance companies and organizations include Chicago Samba, Forward Momentum Chicago, Galaxie Girls and Chorus Girls, Hiplet Chicago, Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago, and Muntu Dance Theater of Chicago.

“Navy Pier is proud to keep the spirit of the Chicago Dancing Festival alive through Planet Chicago, a free artistic and cultural experience that is sure to get everyone on their feet,” said Navy Pier Chief Program and Civic Engagement Officer Michelle T. Boone. “Our goal is to take guests on a literal musical journey as we invite the audience to join the dancers in a jubilant and celebratory procession from one performance location to the next along the scenic South Dock, and finally ending at the new Lake Stage on the Polk Bros Park Performance Lawns.”
