Open Door: Sol Cabrini + alfonzo kahlil, C. Russell Price + Andrew Sa

IN-PERSON POETRY READING WITH LIVESTREAM (HYBRID)

The Open Door series highlights creative relationships and collaborations between poets in the Midwest. Each featured poet invites a guest from any discipline to perform alongside them, opening up poetry as a porous category. May’s featured readers are Sol Cabrini with alfonzo kahlil and C. Russell Price with Andrew Sa.

This is a hybrid event, which will be offered in-person and via livestream.

Sol Cabrini is the author of Tgirl.jpg.

alfonzo kahlil is a poet, playwright, and performance artist raised on the Westside (bestside) of Chicago who believes whatever doesn’t kill you makes for great art. Dramatist of SCORPIO & THE NEW / NEW TESTAMENT, alfonzo utilizes the polyphony of spoken word and performance as a medium to explore the realm of the profane, the profound, the sacred, and the taboo of the interpersonal. alfonzo holds a BFA in theatre from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and is represented by Stewart Talent.

Russell Price is a Lambda Fellow, Ragdale Fellow, Windy City Times 30 Under 30 honoree, and a two-time Lit City Top 50 Writers of Chicago honoree. They are the author of Tonight, We Fuck the Trailer Park Out of Each Other and Oh, You Thought This Was A Date?!: Apocalypse Poems. They are a poet-in-residence with the Chicago Poetry Center, a core faculty member for Story Studio, and an editor with The Anarchist Review of Books. They’re writing about a ghost cowboy and his ghost blue horse these days. Less honk, more tonk.

Actor and singer-songwriter Andrew Sa is Chicago’s premiere queer country crooner. He’s currently focused on his debut album with producer and co-writer, H.C. McEntire of Durham, North Carolina, and finishing an EP of Patsy Cine and Loretta Lynn covers with the late Patrick Haggerty of Lavender Country. Andrew hosts the Chicago seasonal cult sensation, Cosmic Country Showcase.
