The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago presents a two-day festival that features an all-star cast of ten former Merce Cunningham collaborators, convened by guest curator John King.
Each day presents a unique program of the musicians' historic and new works, with electronic music, traditional instruments, and vocals performed in different small and large ensembles. The compositions mirror each of the creators' collaborations with Cunningham, whose restless explorations with composer John Cage not only revolutionized music and dance, but also changed the relationship between the two. For the grand finale each day, all ten composers play a version of a Cunningham Event -- each individually devising a unique time-score before performing together as one big sound.
A Pre-Concert Talk with John King, Phil Selway and other composers will be held on Sunday, February 26 at 2:00 PM and is free with a concert ticket.
