Museum of Contemporary Art: SHAREOUT!

Price — $15.00 – $30.00

Fri 24 Aug 2018 - Sat 25 Aug 2018

SHareOUT! features local performers whose boundary-breaking works have been developed over the past year with support from the Chicago Dancemakers Forum, in celebration of its founding by the MCA, Links Hall, and the Dance Center of Columbia fifteen

Friday, August 24, 7pm:

Fujima Yoshinojo (Rika Lin) presents an original work, Asobi: Playing within Time that transgresses her background in traditional Japanese dance to explore perceptions of gender with an original score and video by Tatsu Aoki and Reduction Ensemble. Following Yoshinojo, choreographer Joshua Ishmon presents Redefining BLACK in collaboration with Sam "Trump" Harris on vocals/trumpet and a group of live dancers. The choreography reflects conversations, stories, and emotions about the word, color, and race 'black' that emerged in a series of community discussions organized by Ishmon for the creation of the piece.

Saturday, August 25, 3pm:

Choreographer Victoria Bradford kicks off Friday (6 pm) and Saturday (2 pm) with a performance with electronic composer Todd Mattei that moves around the MCA's plaza, sculpture garden, and campus perimeter as a part of Bradford's durational work in which she dances in 100 towns in 100 days. Brittany Harlin closes out Friday (8:30 pm) and Saturday (4:30 pm) with a free party in the Commons featuring a live band and dancers from the Chicago Urban Dance collective engaging with funk, house, and freestyle dancing.
