MCA Chicago Announces New Restaurant, MarisolConnect with us.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is thrilled to announce Marisol, the museum's new restaurant experience with Chef Jason Hammel, opening in July 2017.
Marisol re-imagines the relationship between food, art, and design in an immersive art environment created by renowned international artist Chris Ofili.
Hammel will present an ever-changing, hyper-seasonal menu filled with vibrant, playful, and contemporary flavors inspired by the art surroundings that fuel the mind as well as the body. The new restaurant serves as the perfect backdrop for dinner with friends, light bites and conversation by the bar after performances, and productive, coffee-fueled mornings.
The name Marisol is inspired by the spirited French/Venezuelan artist who was a star of the New York art scene in the 1960s. A good friend of Andy Warhol - she appeared in his films "The Kiss" and "13 Most Beautiful Girls" - Marisol gave the MCA its first artwork in 1968, Six Women, and thereby started the museum's world-class collection of contemporary art. Marisol - the restaurant - is set in an architectural space designed by Johnson Marklee with arched, vaulted ceilings, and the imagery, colors, and textures of Ofili's art environment are carried through the décor and are echoed in the delicate and distinctive flavors of Jason's cuisine.
Located at street-level, Marisol accommodates up to 125 guests in the main dining area, bar, and private dining room. Casual seating with places to meet, dine, or just plug-in is also offered, along with takeaway service. The lively neighborhood restaurant is open beyond museum hours and features lunch and dinner, as well as weekend brunch, in a shared plates format. Built upon a twenty-year relationship with Midwest farmers, Hammel's menu incorporates vibrant vegetables and handmade pastas, alongside meticulously sourced meat and seafood. The beverage program features a large selection of food-friendly natural wines along with one of Chicago's deepest vermouth and aperitif lists, complementing the lighter palette.
