DIRECTIONS

If You Are Coming from the Suburbs

Metra
Traveling to and from the suburbs is convenient and easy with Metra trains. Visit www.metrarail.com for schedules, maps and station locations. From the train stations, it is easy to get to The Magnificent Mile! Take a cab, or consider the below options:

  • From Union Station: By bus, take the 151 (northbound ) or 157 (eastbound) at Adams and Canal to  North Michigan Avenue. Exit anywhere between Wacker Drive and Oak Street.
  • From Ogilvie Transportation Center: By bus, take the 157 (eastbound) at Adams and Canal to North Michigan Avenue. Exit anywhere between Wacker Drive and Oak Street.
  • From Metra Millennium Station: Walk north four blocks. Or take the 3, 26, 143, 147, 151 or 157 bus on Michigan at Randolph north to The Magnificent Mile. Exit anywhere between Wacker Drive and Oak Street.
  • Water Taxi: For a unique route of travel from Union Station, hop on Wendella’s Chicago Water Taxi for a quick trip down the Chicago River to The Magnificent Mile. Contact Wendella at (312) 337-1446 or click here for information on schedules, rates and docks.

If You Are Coming from the Airport

CTA  (Public Transportation)

  • From Midway, take the Orange line to Roosevelt. Exit at Roosevelt and transfer to the Red line north (Howard). Take the Red line to the Grand or Chicago stop. Exit and walk east approximately two blocks to Michigan Avenue.
  • From O’Hare, take the Blue line to Lake. Exit at Lake and transfer to the Red line north (Howard). Take the Red line to the Grand or Chicago stop. Exit and walk east approximately two blocks to Michigan Avenue.

Cab
Cabs are plentiful at the airports and can be picked up outside baggage claim.

If You Are Driving from the:

North: Go south on Lake Shore Drive, exit at Michigan Avenue
Northwest : Take I-90/94 to Ohio Street then east on Ohio Street to Michigan Avenue
South: Go north on Lake Shore Drive, exit Illinois Street/Grand Avenue, follow signs to Michigan Avenue.
Southwest : Take I-55 to Lake Shore Drive north then exit on Illinois Street/Grand Avenue, follow signs to Michigan Avenue.
 


TRANSPORTATION

CTA (Public Transportation)
Public transportation is an easy and affordable way to traverse the city and The Magnificent Mile. Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) buses and the elevated and subway trains will take you from one end of the city to the other in no time.

  • Red Line Train: Exit via Chicago Avenue or Grand Avenue and walk east approximately 3 blocks.
  • Bus: Thirteen bus routes run along The Magnificent Mile with various drop offs on North Michigan Avenue between Oak Street and Wacker Drive, including: 2, 3, 10, 26, 125, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, 151, 157. The following bus routes intersect North Michigan Avenue from the east and/or west: 66 (upper Michigan Avenue); 29, 65 (lower Michigan Avenue).

Taxi
Taxi cabs are plentiful and easy to catch along The Magnificent Mile. There are no designated areas to catch a taxi cab so simply raise your hand and wait for the next available cab to stop for you. Trolley & Double Decker Bus
Enjoy the sights of The Magnificent Mile from a trolley or double decker bus while your driver gives an entertaining and informative tour of the area. Hop on and off at several locations along The Magnificent Mile for a little shopping or a bite to eat. Pick up the Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Bus on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Pearson Street in front of the Water Tower Pumping Station or at 401 N. Michigan Avenue next to the Chicago River. Pick up the Gray Line Tours Trolley or Double Decker Bus at Chestnut and Michigan Avenue at the John Hancock Building or at 410 N. Michigan Avenue in front of the Wrigley Building.
