The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival History
For more than 40 years, the trees along North Michigan Avenue have been illuminated to signal the official start of the holiday season in Chicago and the nation. With the help of over 800 volunteers, The Greater North Michigan Avenue Association's annual kick-off to the holiday season encourages all to join in the spirit of the holiday season and enjoy a host of holiday experiences and shopping along The Magnificent Mile.
The Greater North Michigan Avenue Association is a private, non-profit membership organization with a mission of preserving, promoting, and enhancing one of Chicago's most unique neighborhoods. Its 730 members include real estate, retailers, hotels, entertainment and cultural venues, and institutional and residential properties.
The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival's success is largely due to the time, energy and creativity of our many volunteer committees. GNMAA's strong membership forms over 35 committees that serve to and enhance The Magnificent Mile experience, from consumer events to beautification to planning and zoning. In addition, The Magnificent Mile Charitable Foundation is the charitable arm of the association, extending financial support to many educational institutions in our neighborhood.
